M. Georg Thomson. Esqre Trustee’s Office. – Edinburgh.

It is a pity I should be forced to begin our Correspondance with excuses, but I depend upon your indulgence on a poor man of a weak health, and overladen with all sorts of bussiness.

I am most obliged to you, for all the Kind things you are pleased to honor me with, and feel myself much flattered that by your invitation, to add my essays to the works of the great Father Haydn.      Accept then, herejoined the ten scottish airs, which I wish that they may in some degree corresponde with your expectations, if you will not measure them at the standard of my great antecessor.

I have not profitted of your permission to change some notes in the melodies, because every little declination from their original beeing would have denaturated them.

With respect to your wishes concerning three ouvertures for the Pianoforte I beg, you would be pleased to explain your Ideas a little more decidedly, and also to fix the compliment yourself. I will then see, if I find time enough besides my more voluminous works to satisfy you.

I am with esteem and regard Sir your most obedient
Servant
Charles Maria von Weber
